We are pleased to announce that OMHS is progressing with its plans to support the gradual and safe reopening of our programs, services, and facilities. This is an ongoing process, and we continue to carefully and responsibly review the easing of restrictions in order to ensure the safety of the animals, public, volunteers, and staff remain our top priority.

OMHS moved to Phase 2 of its recovery plan on June 22, 2020. In order to ensure the safety of everyone as we work towards a “new normal” at the shelter, we must follow all physical distancing protocols that have been put in place. To help maintain a minimum two-metre distance in the shelter, we have added floor decals to remind visitors to maintain a minimum two-metre distance from each other. Please view the table below for the updated list of our current services. Please note that visitation of animals is not permitted in Phase 2.

If you plan to visit the shelter you will be required to wear a mask. If you do not have a mask with you one will be provided. We do ask that you make a nominal donation to pay for the cost of the mask and to support our work at the shelter.

We will be allowing a maximum of 2 visitors into the lobby of our shelter at one time (unless otherwise scheduled by appointment). We will be closely monitoring the traffic flow in and out of the shelter and the grounds at all times to ensure everyone’s safety.

We are also encouraging members of the public during the Phase 2 Opening to access our online services rather than physically coming into the shelter. This includes dog licensing, donations, general inquiries, etc.

Thanks to the hard work of our volunteers the Barkin’ Bin Thrift Shop at 511 Pinegrove Road in Oakville is now open Thurs-Sat from 1-4 pm! To celebrate the reopening we are now holding a massive summer sale. So pop by today to shop and drop off your gently used goods. In particular, we are in need of fall clothing. Please note, at this time we can’t accept children’s toys. All proceeds from the sales go directly to help the animals.

A reminder to all visitors to NOT visit the shelter or thrift store if you have:

  • travelled outside Canada in the last 14 days
  • are experiencing shortness of breath, cough, sore throat, or fever
  • been in close contact with a person showing symptoms or tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 14 days

We thank you for your ongoing support and we look forward to this next phase as we work to return to a new normal at the shelter.
