Small dog sitting on the snow.If it’s cold for you, it’s cold for your pets. Don’t leave pets unattended outside

  • When the weather is extremely cold and/or conditions are treacherous, keep walks short and close to home
  • A dog coat, or sweater, will aid short coated or elderly pets when they are out for walk
  • Salt on the roads can be uncomfortable on your dog’s feet, try to avoid heavily salted areas and wipe your dog’s feet when you get home. Doggie boots may be an option for some
  • If you suspect your pet has ingested antifreeze or another poison, contact your veterinarian immediately
  • Make sure your pet has a collar, tag and microchip in case it gets lost. Get your dog licence here
  • Knock on the hood of your car before starting it in case an animal climbed up under the hood to stay warm. Cats will often do this, so it is a good habit to get into during the winter months
