November 14 – Fantastic news! The coyote that was rescued Monday night with her head lodged in a plastic container is drinking and has started to eat. It is expected she will make a full recovery in about a week and then will be released back into the wild.
The coyote was first reported to the Oakville & Milton Humane Society (OMHS) on Tuesday, November 5 after she was seen in southwest Oakville with a plastic container lodged on her head. The OMHS Animal Protective Services (APS) team searched for the coyote for six straight days and nights. They came close to rescuing her a number of times but coyotes are very smart and have a heightened sense of hearing, smell and sight. Coyotes, even injured ones, are also incredibly fast and can run over 60 km/h.
On Monday Nov. 11, the APS team rescued the coyote and safely transported her back to the shelter where the plastic container was successfully removed. The coyote was dehydrated and weak but alert. This rescue would not have been possible without the help of the public. Thank you to everyone who shared information and called in sightings of this distressed animal. It was only with your help that the APS team could locate and safely rescue her.
