Youth Apprenticeship Program
Our Youth Apprenticeship Program (Y.A.P.) is designed to give 13-16 year olds the opportunity to learn about animal behaviour, care and safe handling practices in a shelter setting. Participants will have the opportunity to volunteer directly with the animals in this one-of-a-kind 10-week program. Participants can put volunteer hours towards community service and resume building.
Y.A.P. runs three times per year, with 10 youth in each session. These spots are filled by lottery. The intake for registration will occur on a single day each year. On the day after Labour Day, we will take names and contact information from all interested parties. All names will go into a draw, and 30 names will be randomly selected to participate in the following year’s program.
To register, you can submit the following information in person at the shelter, by email (preferred) to firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at 905-845-1551 ext. 305:
- Youth name, age, contact email and phone number
- Parent name, contact email and phone number
