Oakville & Milton Humane Society Volunteer Program

The staff and animals at the Oakville & Milton Humane Society appreciate your interest in volunteering. We’re eager to have you join the more than 300 volunteers assisting our staff to care for the animals at the shelter and provide animal related services in our community.  Volunteers are very valued members of the Oakville & Milton Humane Society.

As a volunteer, you may have the opportunity to help us in the following areas: animal care, fostering, cat socialization, matching pets and people, dog training, small animal socializing, pet therapy, education, office help, store help, and even gardening and light handy-person chores.

We appreciate all those who consider volunteering at the Oakville & Milton Humane Society but only those people whom are best suited for the position will be contacted for interviews.

We are looking for people to help us staff our thrift store. If you would like to help out please send us a thrift store volunteer application.

We are also looking for the following volunteer positions:

  • Special Events
  • Donation Box Collectors
  • Thrift Store Help
  • Bingo (2 hours a month)
  • Foster Parents (especially for adult animals)
  • Evening Tour Guide for Spark, Beaver, Cub Groups
  • Wildlife Drivers 
  • Greeters
  • Cage Sale Co-ordinator

 

Youth Opportunities

Summer Leader In Training – Age 14-17 – Students will collect up to 40 hours of community service working with our Kids and Critters Summer Camps during July and August. Students will assist with one week of camp in either July or August. The application process opens at the end of March. Interviews, student selections and training will take place in June. Click here for more info
 
Youth Apprenticeship Program – Age 13 – 16 – This is a hybrid program that involves learning about pets and having an opportunity to volunteer in the shelter with animals that are available for adoption.  This is a 10 week program. Students will volunteer with the cats for 9 weeks and will have an opportunity, over the ten weeks, to spend one session with dogs, small animals, helping with the Kindness Club and supporting the Customer Care Department.  This program will provide 25 hours of community services on completion and it runs 3 times a year with a maximum of 10 students per session.
