Legacy and Planned Gifts
Leave a legacy
Leaving a gift in your will is one of the most effective ways to secure a brighter future for animals in need.
A legacy gift is a powerful act of compassion that ensures your love for vulnerable animals endures. By supporting the Oakville & Milton Humane Society (OMHS) in your will, you help create a kinder world for those who cannot speak for themselves, leaving a lasting legacy of care and protection for generations to come.

Types of bequests you can include in your will:
- Residual bequest–After making provisions for your loved ones and other obligations are met, you can leave a percentage of the remainder of your estate
- Specific bequest–You can designate a specific dollar amount
- Life insurance policies–You can designate the Oakville & Milton Humane Society as the owner and/or beneficiary of an insurance policy, in whole or in part
- Property–You can donate a house or personal property
- Registered investments–Donating all or part of your Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP), Registered Retirement Income Fund (RRIF) or Tax-Free Savings Account (TFSA) assets to OMHS is an effective way to reduce the fees and taxes payable by your estate while transforming your assets into meaningful support for vulnerable animals
- Publicly listed securities–By donating shares, bonds or units of a mutual fund trust to OMHS, you avoid paying taxes on capital gains and you will receive a tax receipt for the full value of your donation. Download the Donation of Securities form here.
